S. John Campanie, Esq. is founder and has been a principal in the Central New York law firm of Campanie & Wayland-Smith PLLC since its formation in 2000. He is the former Madison County Attorney and served from 1987 through 2016, where he was the chief civil legal officer and advisor to the County and its numerous departments and agencies. He has also served as the City Attorney for the City of Sherrill beginning in 2001
At Campanie & Wayland-Smith, he currently concentrates his practice in business and commercial law (including forming and representing corporations and limited liability companies) and estate planning and administration (including preparation of wills, powers of attorney and health care proxies and representation of executors and administrators in administration of decedent’s estates). During his career he devoted a substantial part of his practice to municipal law and representation of local governments and played a substantial role in the successful defense of Native American land claims in New York. His career included managing the world-wide export and military divisions of the world’s largest manufacturer of flatware, covering exports to 50+ countries.
